"Zoë helped us to think beyond our usual horizons."
Helen Turnbull, Cape Leopard Trust
I have worked for over two years with the Cape Leopard Trust (CLT), an NGO based in the Western Cape, South Africa, dedicated to conserving vulnerable leopard populations. CLT is a long-standing and reputable conservation group, with over 15 years of experience raising funds and implementing conservation projects with local partners.
I first worked with the CLT team to develop a theory of change, which formed the foundation for both their fundraising and their communication strategies. The iterative process of developing this document helped the team to articulate the social and environmental problems they are addressing, the various mechanisms they employ to create change, and the outcomes that are most important to them. It also generated a mission and vision statement. I also worked with the team to clarify their research and capacity development strategies in relation to the theory of change.
My science communication partner, Tali Hoffman, then developed a narrative version of the theory of change for use on all front facing communication material. She also wrote stories of impact for the CLT’s 15-year review, and in the process identified strategic ways of framing the organisation’s key activities and impacts. She then worked with the CLT team to develop a mid-term communication strategy with clearly-articulated communication goals, objectives and activities, and on an ongoing ad-hoc basis, mentors the team as they implement that strategy.
With these important foundations in place, I continue to support and track the rollout of the fundraising strategy. I help to plan fundraising activities, review proposals, and identify grant calls and other fundraising opportunities.
